Week Five

The Heart of Additive Manufactoring these days

Major Takeaway

Wow, 3D-Printing is amazing. We were introduced to fusion 360 and where asked to prepare a few projects like a shopping cart chip, a penholder, a handy holder and a vase, which you can see in action at the top. I never thought that it would be so easy to desing a 3D printable object but I only needed 6/7 minutes and boom there was another one. The possibilities seem endless and I think everybody in class really appreciatet the way Leven introduced us to the topic.

Now that we designed was already pretty cool but printing it was even bether. But there are some drawbacks form 3D printing, espacially complex structures need supports, which can be really nasty to remove from inner structures. The best example for this is my ball joint where i had to remove supports from the cavaties in between the thread of my print. The surface of our prints is also really unclean and rough, which leads to friction and non smooth movements in between parts. Overall I think 3D printing will be the skill I am going to be using most in my future projects. Once you get the basic idea it is really easy t continue building knowledge upon that. One problem remaining is the time i need to create a new object in Fusion360, this would need way more time and practice to get to a point where my work speed matches my workload.

What are my major takeaways from this week

  • Fusion Design
  • How to slice
  • Actual wokr with a printer
  • Limits of basic 3D Printers
  • Lacinia mattis arcu nascetur lobortis.
